Palestine, a Whisper
Composed by Shimmers

(Verse 1) The headlines scream across the morning news Another story painted in shades of blues Of distant lands and conflicts hard to trace A people yearning for a safe and peaceful space We see the images of rubble, dust, and fear And sometimes turn away, pretending not to hear A narrative is woven, black and white, they say Forgetting in the shadows, humans kneel and pray
(Chorus) Oh, Palestine, a whisper on the breeze Lost in the echoes of our own unease We build our walls of comfort, brick by weary brick While hearts are breaking, and the innocent grow sick Can we not see the tears, the pain behind the veil? Another beating heart, another sorrowful tale They walk this earth like you and I, beneath the same sun’s glare Don’t hatred’s seeds take root in soil of unaware?
(Verse 2) The stories filter through a biased, narrow lens Of blame and anger that so often transcends The simple truth of lives caught in the fray Where every single dawn just brings another weary day A child’s small hand reaching, grasping for some aid A mother’s lullaby, a melody that’s frayed They dream of futures, just like children here at home But shadows loom so large, they feel so all alone
(Bridge) We send our help across the ocean wide When earthquakes strike, or when the rivers rise Our empathy can stretch to lands we’ve never known So why this hardened heart, this seed of hatred sown? Is it the names, the flags, the lines upon a map? That makes a human life somehow a lesser trap? Imagine walking in their shoes, just for a single hour To feel the constant fear, the absence of all power.
(The Twist) (Slow, almost spoken word) The screen goes dark. The news report is done. You rise to pour some water, feeling numb. Your reflection stares back, a stranger in the glass. And in that mirror’s gaze, the truth begins to pass. The land you stand on, built on stolen ground, Echoes with the cries that history has drowned. The freedoms that you cherish, bought at such a cost, A tapestry of struggles, forever being lost If empathy forgets where its own story starts… Then are you truly different in your guarded hearts?
(Outro) (Soft, fading) Palestine… a mirror… can you see? Humanity’s reflection… staring back at thee…
