The American Fall

Raised on stories of the brave and the bold
Fourth of July parades, a story told
Red, white, and blue, a symbol of might
A beacon of freedom, a guiding light
I learned the anthem, stood hand on my heart
Believed in the dream, right from the start
This land, my home, a place I hold dear
But something is changing, and I can feel the fear.

‘Cause I love this country, born and raised in these lands
But I’m watching it crumble right here in my hands
The fault lines are showing, the cracks run so deep
Promises broken, secrets to keep
And I don’t have the answers, don’t know what to do
So I’ll just keep watching, me and you
Chasing my own joy in the shadow of the fall
Hoping for happiness to see me through it all.

The voices are screaming, tearing us apart
A nation divided, a broken heart
We argue and fight on the digital screen
Forgetting the people, the in-betweens
The headlines are heavy, the future feels gray
And I wonder if we’ve just lost our way
The heroes I cherished, the values they held
Are fading to whispers, a different tale is spelled.
